Serving Drivers in Saginaw, Bay City, Midland, Flint & Throughout Mid-Michigan
Michigan’s no-fault law and personal injury protection (PIP) requirements can easily muddle the auto insurance purchasing process. From navigating MCCA fees to understanding your coverage options after Michigan’s 2019 no-fault reform, the Coppolino family has been helping Saginaw, Bay City, Midland, and Flint drivers secure reliable and affordable auto coverage since 1989.

Reach out to us today for personalized protection that’s got your back—because in our family, we take care of our own!
What are Michigan Auto Insurance Coverages?
Bodily Injury Coverage
Bodily Injury coverage protects you in the event of an accident when you are at fault. If the injured party (the claimant) requires medical attention and their cost of injury surpasses their selected limits of personal injury protection (PIP) on their auto policy, then they will come back and attempt to collect the remaining amount from you (the liable party). Bodily Injury coverage protects you in this situation and will pay the injured party up to the amount of your selected bodily injury limit. The state of Michigan has a recommended requirement to carry a limit on Bodily Injury coverage of $250,000/$500,000. As Saginaw’s trusted independent insurance agency, the Coppolino family can help you determine the right bodily injury limits for your situation.
Property Damage
Property Damage covers you (the liable party) in the event of an accident that occurs outside of the state of Michigan, where no-fault law does not apply. In this event, this coverage will protect you if the injured party incurs vehicular and/or property damage and seeks settlement. The minimum requirement in the state of Michigan is to carry $100,000 in property damage coverage. For Saginaw drivers who frequently travel out of state, the Coppolino family can help you evaluate if higher limits make sense for your needs.
Property Protection
Property Protection covers you (the liable party) in the event of an accident in the state of Michigan, if you cause damage to another person’s property, such as their buildings, parked cars, fences, etc. The state of Michigan requires you carry a minimum of $1 million in coverage for property protection. This is a unique Michigan requirement that many drivers don’t fully understand—contact our Saginaw office if you have questions about this mandatory coverage.
Mini-Tort
Mini-Tort coverage, also referred to as Limited Property Damage Liability, allows the injured party in a vehicular accident to collect up to $3,000 for vehicle damage from the at-fault driver if the injured party’s damages do not meet their collision deductible. You can reject Mini-Tort coverage in Michigan, but most Saginaw drivers choose to keep it for the added protection it provides.
Uninsured/Underinsured Coverage
Uninsured/Underinsured coverage protects you (the injured party) in the event of a vehicular accident if you incur medical costs that surpass your selected personal injury protection limits, and the at-fault party has either no insurance or below the state bodily injury minimum of $250,000/$500,000. In this event, your medical bills that surpass your PIP limits will be covered by your auto insurance provider. Given Michigan’s higher-than-average rate of uninsured drivers, the Coppolino family strongly recommends this optional coverage for Bay City, Saginaw, Midland, and Flint drivers.
Personal Injury Protection (PIP)
Personal Injury Protection, also referred to as PIP, is essentially medical coverage for you in the event of a vehicular accident. Regardless of fault, personal injury protection (PIP) will cover your medical costs associated with injury that result from a vehicular accident. Since Michigan’s 2019 no-fault reform, drivers can now choose their PIP level—from unlimited coverage down to $50,000 or even opting out if you have Medicare; although, we never recommend opting out of PIP and the vast majority of our clients carry full PIP coverage! The Coppolino family has been helping Saginaw drivers navigate these PIP choices for over 35 years and can explain which option makes sense for your health insurance situation.
Comprehensive Coverage
Comprehensive coverage covers the cost to repair your vehicle if physical damage is present. Comprehensive coverage, also referred to as OTC (other than collision), covers the cost to repair your car if the physical damage results from any incident that does not involve another vehicle, such as cracked windshield, if a tree falls on your car, if you hit a deer, etc. For Saginaw and Mid-Michigan drivers, comprehensive coverage is especially valuable given our harsh winters, high deer population, and severe weather events.
Collision Coverage
Collision coverage also covers the cost to repair your vehicle if physical damage is present; however, it only covers the cost to repair your car when another vehicle is involved. There are two main types of collision coverage: standard and broadened. Standard means that you will have to pay the price of your collision deductible if you are at-fault. However, broadened means that the insurance company will waive your collision deductible and pay for you when another vehicle is involved, regardless of who’s at fault. The Coppolino family can help you decide if broadened collision makes sense for your Michigan driving needs.
