Auto insurance offers financial protection to the driver in the event of an accident, theft, and/or damage to their automobile. There are six classifications of auto coverage: Liability, Uninsured & Underinsured, Comprehensive, Collision, Medical, and Personal Injury Protection Coverage.
Liability Coverage pays for injuries and damages you may cause to others in the event of an accident.
Uninsured & Underinsured Motorist Coverage protects you in the event of an accident caused by both uninsured and underinsured drivers. An uninsured driver is a motorist that does not have auto insurance. An underinsured driver is a motorist that has auto insurance; however, their liability limits fail to cover your medical bills. In this event, your insurance coverage will pay any remaining medical expenses.
Comprehensive Coverage protects against non-collision incidents, such as theft and/or natural disaster.
Collision Coverage covers the payment of repairs to your own vehicle in the event of an accident.
Medical Coverage covers any medical bills that may arise resulting from the event of an accident.
Personal Injury Protection Coverage (PIP) is similar to medical coverage, in that it pays for any medical expenses that may arise resulting from an accident; additionally, PIP also covers additional expenses that may arise due to an accident such as: lost income, childcare expenses, etc.
Although auto insurance is legally required in most states (including Michigan), it is a resourceful investment that protects you against life’s unknown.
